Don't miss the new intro piece 8 minutes before kickoff

It’s been a while since my last stream of consciousness, but the lack of submissions has not been for a lack of desire. I’ve been on a full sprint since returning from Texas following the Hardin-Simmons game two weeks ago.

Most folks probably can’t fathom the myriad of details that go into hosting a college football game. This week, I’ve dealt with everything from marching bands, to hospitality coupons, parking passes, to pressbox cleaning and window washing, microphone checks, and ordering the pizza for halftime. Among the most time consuming has been the development of video presentation elements for Linfield’s football display board. Because video presentations take so long to render, these are truly a labor of love.

We’ve got some fun things prepared to debut at tonight’s game on the CatVision display board, including a captivating new introduction montage, Wildcat Trivia and several Senior Moments, which allow seniors to reflect on their careers and the Linfield program for all see and hear. The seniors whose words will display on the scoreboard are: Scott Birkhofer, Reggie Ford and Scott Olsen.

Hope you all had a chance to read the great feature story on Scott Olsen, written by Linfield sophomore Eric Evenson. It’s the Wildcat Spotlight story in our game program and a great piece about perseverance.

Check back later today for updates. Eric and I will be in the pressbox and will test out the new “From the Pressbox” segment of this blog.

And fans are in for a treat tonight as the Tigard High School Marching Ensemble comes to Maxwell Field. One hundred members strong, they’ll be playing throughout the game and performing a full show at halftime.

If you can’t make it to the game, why not sign up for the “CatsEyeView” pay-per-view Webcast? You get live action and replays, plus the radio play-by-play. Dave Hansen and former Wildcats All-American Tyler Matthews. The radio simulcasts remain free of charge, if you prefer that option.

  • Looking forward to the Webcast.
Will some of those video presentations be included?

  • The suggestion of including some scoreboard vids on the CatsEyeView is a good one and I’ll look into it to see if it’s possible. No promises, but we’ll give a shot in time for the Oct. 4 game.

And regarding the CatsEyeView Webcast: Yes, we did experience some poor quality issues during the first half. Those were due to a number of reasons, most of them falling into the category of “First Game Bugs.” It didn’t help either that the kickoff was 6 p.m., meaning we started the game in full daylight and ended under the glare of stadium lights. Certain adjustments have to be made to compensate for varying light conditions and our operators are a bit inexperienced in that area.

By halftime, we were able to make some adjustments to both the video and audio streams that improved the quality of the broadcast tremendously. Thanks for everyone’s patience.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Thanks for the hard work on the video feed.

Enjoyed watching it. Glad that the team did their part and ended up with the “W”!

  • Great addition to the web site. We all realize how busy you are, but finding the time to add behind the scenes info in your blog really adds a lot, especially for those who aren’t able to get to the games. Stand by, we expect to be back for the final three games of the season and the playoffs!
